so what the hell are our lives all about?

was the question that myself and three friends got together to ponder tonight.

as it was, we had a bbq, drank gin and tonic, champagne and strawberries, rum, port and coffee, ate some banana bread (i must post nigella's recipe on here some time...sexy sensuous baking and delicious too) we sat in my back yard with little candles flickering and a mellow playlist playing and we talked and laughed and me and stu smoked the pipe with some grand old plum and rum tobacco i picked up in derby and we pondered and imagined and wondered and ended the night dancing on our chairs.

not a bad way to spend an evening, if you ask me.

as for what the hell our lives are all about, i reckon we can leave that one until tomorrow.

but it's something about acknowledging longing
something about celebrating with champagne
something about tears
something about desire and sex and what Coupland calls the Forever Person
something about honesty
something about justice
something about liking yourself enough to believe your being here matters
something about good music, good rum and good tobacco
something about smiling under starless skies
something about belonging
something about recognising middle class privilege
something about recognising our honest to god pain
something about hope
something about warp and woof and wonder

you know?
