Wasn’t it Oscar Wilde who said of all the languages a person might attempt to learn American is the hardest to master?

I had a little trouble with pronunciation on the plane. After asking for ‘Mountain Dew’ a total of seven times, the flight attendant finally understood my request for ‘Tea with milk’. After a few more attempts at American (‘mountin doooo’) he politely informed me, ‘Ohhhh! Mountain Dew! Oh! I'm sorry. I thought you said tea with milk! You want a Mountain Dew? Sorry. We don’t carry it.’
‘I’ll just have a Coke’, I mumbled, taking the can and shrinking back into my seat; then realising, a full minute later, that he was holding out a glass of ice and waiting for me to take it. Him and the guy in the seat beside me, impatient for his tea with milk.
