anyway, yesterday i bought a pocket watch. then, after putting out the fire (four tacos warming one minute - billowing flames the next. oops.) and having dinner we went to a nearby taize service. it was peaceful. though the service was conducted mostly by means of an prerecorded cd, which added a wizard of oz effect to the proceedings. we spent the rest of the evening in javamonkey, listening to music from joe mcguinness and heather luttrell. my feets were tappin, my face smiling: these guys were grrrrrreat.

today, amidst the pages of michael longley's papers, i found a drawing of an elephant and an oxo cube. it pleased me no end. of all the hundreds of pages my eyes are likely to peruse in the next three months, i think these red inked sketches will be among my favourite and most memorable sights.
i also read this:
"The critical comment which has most pleased me is Douglas Dunn's (in the TLS) about me drawing extensively on my anima. I hope my work celebrates the female principle (horrible phrase) - in women, of course, but also in men and in myself. That's the only hope the world - men being true to their nipples (!) and giving the macho things a long rest. I'm a very imperfect feminist: the M.C.P. keeps surfacing - but I don't stop trying."
